York Writers

Over the past 25 years members of York Writers (formerly known as York & District Writers Circle) have seen over 1,000 items of their work in print, including 30 novels and a dozen non-fiction books. They have also published four anthologies of membersÕ work.

ÔThe objectives of the group have always been to share writing experience and knowledge and encourage new writers,Õ says chairman, Bill Bradley. ÔAt the main meeting we have speakers, competitions judged by independent adjudicators with cash prizes and trophies, manuscript readings and discussions. Occasional social evenings give us all a chance for a good chat.

The workshop meetings are smaller with members reading and discussing work of a more continuous nature, such as novels as well as other manuscripts.Õ

New members are welcome. York Writers have a main meeting every fortnight on Wednesdays 8-10pm and a workshop meeting on alternate Wednesdays. The main meeting is at GuppyÕs Club, York, and the workshops are held at Hansom Place. Further details from their website: www.york-writers.org.uk
