Course booster

Last year we mentioned Devon writer, Doreen Hughes, who had ‘got the bug’ and planned to take her writing more seriously. She writes now to report that completing a HE Cert course in Creative Writing and English Studies at Ruskin College, Oxford, has given her knowledge and self-esteem a real boost.

Doreen points out that the college offers a warm welcome to mature students wanting a second chance at further education and has ‘taster’ residential courses to help decide if college life would suit.

As with many other universities, there are bursaries available if no further education was received in the past and the local education authority cover the tuition fees.

With her new-found confidence, Doreen plans to continue with her creative writing and enter competitions. We wish her luck.
