• The IPF has organised three writing
competitions in the run-up to its 40th anniversary.
The first asks members to write a letter, 500-1,000 words,
based on the theme, ‘In this era of instantaneous communication,
I am writing to tell you why it’s worth waiting for
a letter’. Entry is open to all current IPF members.
Mark envelopes ‘IPF’s Letter Writing Competition’.
Prizes are $100, $50 and $25, with an additional $250, $150
and $75 for the school if the entry is from a student whose
class is in the IPF’s Special International Student
Services scheme; closing date 31 July. |

The second competition, open to subscribers
to the club’s People and Places magazine, requires
writers to nominate their mailbox of the year, with a 400-word
essay and photograph.
To be received by 31 August, entries should be marked ‘Mailbox
of the Year’. Prizes are $100, $50 and $25.
The third competition, Penfriend Journeys, is open only to
teachers who have enrolled their current teaching group into
the IPF’s Special International Student Services scheme.
They should submit details of the class’s pen friend
experiences, along with photos, drawings, class assignments
or any other relevant material. One teacher’s submissions,
which should be marked, ‘School Class Pen Friend Journeys’,
will be published in each issue of People and Places,
earning a $100 prize for the school.
